Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee is a prominent international organization working in relief, rehabilitation, protection, post-conflict development, resettlement services and advocacy for those uprooted or affected by violent conflict and oppression.
Working in coordination with the humanitarian community, the IRC currently addresses the needs of war-affected Syrians from several operational bases in the region. Our activities in the region focus primarily on the supply of vital medications and medical equipment, non-food items, water, sanitation and hygiene and child protection and form part of an over-arching humanitarian response in Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Iraq and the region that seeks to assist refugees, IDPs and war-affected Syrians survive conflict and displacement.
This position will be based in Osmaniye Turkey with regular travel to Antakya and Reyhanli, focusing on supporting the implementation of programs to protect and empower women and girls and other vulnerable groups in southern Turkey. The GBV Senior Officer will a play a key role in supporting staff working with vulnerable women in distress and ensure quality programming. GBV Training Officer will play a key role in supporting and expanding ongoing and new programs, leading and strengthening the capacity of staff and vulnerable women. The GBV Senior Officer will report directly to the Women’s Protection and Empowerment Manager but will receive technical support from the GBV Training Specialist.
The GBV Snr Officer will be responsible for the capacity building staff working with vulnerable women and girls as part of Women’s Protection and Empowerment programme.
Provide technical support to case workers on how to support GBV survivors and advise on particularly complex cases
As requested by the WPE Manager, provide technical support through leading sessions, guidance on program activities, etc. with staff in Ousmaniye Women’s Centre and other staff as required, related to good practices in PSS, case management, services for GBV survivors, adolescent girl programming, approaches to outreach, etc. (or other topics as identified together with WPE Managers)
Support the WPE Manager to conduct regular analysis of GBV data collected from program teams in order to note trends and inform programming accordingly, as well as sharing information via reports as needed
In support the WPE Manager to maintain and strengthen strategic partnerships and coordination with other service providers related to GBV services to ensure sharing of learning
Directly supervise case workers. Ensure that case assessments, referrals, safety planning, and work plans are in line with international standards and best practice.
Submit regular reports to the WPE manager on the case load, ensuring data is accurate, updated and detailed.
Directly coordinate with the Senior Outreach Officer on a regular basis to ensure community protection programming are incorporating relevant services for women and girls, case referrals etc.
Other duties as assigned by the supervisor to enable and develop IRC programs.
All IRC staff are required to adhere to THE IRC Way Standards for Professional Conduct and the IRC country employment policies.
At least three years of counseling and training experience working directly with women and girls.
At least one year of management experience
Clear understanding of gender and women’s well-being needs.
Experience facilitating activities and workshops
Positive and professional attitude, including ability to lead and work well in a team setting
Strong ability to organize work, meet deadlines, maintain composure, prioritize work under pressure, coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail
Computer literate, including Microsoft Word and Excel
Fluency in Arabic required; English and Turkish proficiency greatly preferred.
