Support to Life Hayata Destek Derneği is a humanitarian agency founded with the principle objective of working with disaster-stricken communities to help them meet their basic needs and rights. As part of its mandate, STL assessed the situation linked to the humanitarian crisis in Syria and decided to become operational in the region, targeting Syrian refugee families living outside the camps in the border areas of Hatay, Şanlıurfa, Diyarbakir, Batman, Adana, and Istanbul.
In line with its mandate STL currently has the following main activities:
Relief aid and refugee support: In response to the increasing number of refugees in Turkey, STL supports refugees living outside camps with a food security-based E-voucher programme, and provides psychosocial support and case management through its Community Centres;
Child Protection: STL has been working with at-risk children and raising awareness among the public in an effort to contribute to eliminating child labour;
Civil Society Disaster Platform: In collaboration with partners, STL has launched a platform that will bring together civil society actors in sharing information and capacity building related to emergency response and protection in Turkey.
Always seeking to improve the quality and impact of its work, STL is seeking an SGBV expert to support its case management services through which the refugees’ access to and knowledge of available services and their rights are facilitated. Seeking to provide targeted support for SGBV survivors and their dependants, STL is looking for an SGBV expert in order to develop effective and viable case management interventions concerning SGBV. Furthermore, the SGBV expert is expected to build and improve STL’s technical capacity in case management support for refugees in Turkey through staff capacity building and developing relevant guidelines, policies, service maps and referral pathways.

Works with: Designated CM Expert, PSS Expert, Project Managers
Assignment Period: 01 October 2106 to 31 December 2016
Work Place: Based in Istanbul with frequent travel to STL field offices in Hatay
Overall Responsibilities: Providing expertise in the field of SGBV for case management strategy and programs for Syrian refugees in Turkey; developing relevant guidelines, policies, service maps, referral pathways and training programs targeting SGBV cases; providing regular technical support to relevant field teams.
The SGBV Expert reports to the Program Development and Compliance Coordinator. Specific duties and responsibilities are as follows:
Case Management Strategy and Programs
identify sound indicators for successful case management interventions concerning SGBV,
work with Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Expert in incorporating relevant indicators for SGBV-related case interventions in M&E plans in each field office,
work with Accountability and Learning Expert to mainstream participation of the target group in STL’s case management programs,
support the development of STL case management strategy and programs by recommending activities for SGBV cases,
help STL identify relevant advocacy messages regarding policies, institutions and processes.
Research and Technical Capacity
prepare training and guidance materials for STL in collaboration with STL’s CM Expert and PSS Expert on women’s protection and SGBV including the legal framework regarding SGBV in Turkey,
review the existing STL policy documents in order to identify the need for policy documents concerning SGBV,
support the development of SGBV-related policy documents in collaboration with STL’s CM Expert and PSS Expert when deemed necessary,
map available services in Turkey on SGBV and women’s protection including services that aim to empower women and build their capacity to help them lead violence-free lives with increased income-generating opportunities,
map available services in the project locations on SGBV and women’s protection,
identify referral pathways for SGBV cases in the project locations in collaboration with STL’s CM Expert and PSS Expert,
provide trainings for STL staff on specific issues such as domestic violence, early marriages, LGBTI to enable staff deliver awareness-raising sessions on these topics,
prepare brief guidance notes on those topics so that STL can develop them as brochures and videos.
Technical Support and Follow-up
set up technical support system for all STL fields engaged in SGBV case management interventions,
providing one-to-one support to case workers in their SGBV cases.
University degree in a relevant field
Knowledge and experience in providing policy recommendations and legal and practical support for SGBV survivors and their dependants.
Experience of working with affected populations, especially refugees
Previous experience in developing training tools, delivering trainings, coaching and mentoring
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in politicized and multi-cultural settings with a wide variety of stakeholders
Ability to analyze information, document clearly, evaluate options and to think and plan strategically
Open to learning and able to take initiative
Excellent interpersonal, communication and representation skills
Ability to present complex information in a succinct and compelling manner, and to use innovative forms of communication
Fluency in written and spoken Turkish and English
Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally
