The Project Assistants will be implementing the awareness raising activities for Syrian refugees and host communities on the risks and dangers of ERW and how to stay safe. They will furthermore participate in developing and adapting the methods and materials used. Under the supervision of the ERW RE Project Officer, the Assistants will have the following responsibilities and duties:
Who are we?
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a humanitarian, non-governmental and non-profit organization, founded in 1956, that works in more than 35 countries around the world. DRC has been operating in Turkey since early 2013, working with by and large with non-camp Syrian refugees and affected host communities. DRC is committed to basic humanitarian principles; including impartiality and neutrality, and offers the highest standards of accountability to the people it serves. The overall objective for DRC in Turkey is the protection and promotion of durable solutions to displacement affected populations on the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights with more immediate objectives focusing both on the immediate subsistence needs, protection and self-reliance support as well as a more long term focus on capacity building. In Turkey, DRC works partially through partners, also providing intensive capacity building support, while also conducting direct implementation.
About the Job
DRC is looking for a Risk Education Project Assistant for its program in Turkey. In close cooperation with the Risk Education Project Officer and Risk Education Project Manager/Coordinator, the T Risk Education Project Assistant is responsible for
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide Risk Education Awareness Sessions to the Syrian refugee population residing in Hatay province
Provide Risk Education Trainings and workshops when requested
Develop all tools necessary to their Risk Education tasks
Report on all implemented activity
Facilitate the monitoring of the implemented activities by the Risk Education Project Officer and Risk Education Project Manager (including translation)
Ensure that all Risk Education activities are implemented to a high standard
Liaise with community leaders to sensitize them on the RE project
In coordination with the Project Officer ensure that all forms and questionnaires are accurate, of high quality and are adapted to the local context
Collect the requested data, using the forms and questionnaires provided by the Project Officer
Regularly monitor the impact of the activities
Handle all project-related documentation and ensure proper filing
Conduct any other professional task requested by the Project Officer or Project Manager
Teaching skills – at least 2 years of relevant professional experience with training/teaching/facilitation or similar;
Commitment in social issues – previous experience with social work an asset;
Fluency in Arabic and excellent skills in English (written and spoken). Turkish is a plus;
Computer literate including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
Previous experience with reporting, monitoring & evaluation an asset;
You have to hold a Turkish citizenship or residency or valid passport with valid visa (the residency application will be required at the moment of the recruitment)
Strong initiative and self-motivation, with a commitment to teamwork;
Flexible, enthusiastic and willingness to learn from others;
Ability to multi-task and cope with competing demands under tight deadlines;
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment;
Commitment to the humanitarian principles;
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, in Arabic and English.
What we offer:
DRC Turkey offers an employment contract of 9 months with the possibility of extension (depending on funding). The position will be based in Hatay with regular travel to other DRC Turkey offices in the country as directed. We offer a fair compensation package depending on your qualification and experiences as well as additional allowances such as relocation allowance and living allowances, if applicable. DRC Turkey is income tax exempted. Furthermore, DRC Turkey provides training opportunities to develop and strengthen the quality of its services as well as its staff members’ professional and personal development.
